Welcome to the CBS Wiki

What is a wiki?

The CBS wiki is a web site that allows CAHNRS employees who work with CBS to create documentation for how CBS is used. What makes a wiki special is that it allows collaborative editing by the users. Creating and editing documentation does not require any special technical knowledge or tools. All you need is a computer with an Internet connection. A wiki is continuously “under revision.”

Why are we using a wiki for CBS?

CBS is a shared resource for CAHNRS. It takes a lot of people to develop, test, document, and update instructions for a system that is growing to accommodate our needs. By using a wiki, CAHNRS can:

•       Make it quick and easy to write information on web pages.

•       Facilitate communication and discussion, since it's easy for those who are reading a wiki page to edit that page themselves.

•       Allow for quick and easy linking between wiki pages, including pages that don't yet exist on the wiki.*

How do I use the wiki?

Here’s an example. Let’s say you log in to CBS to work in the Personnel Module on annual reviews but you cannot remember some of the filter commands to sort employees in your list. You would use the wiki to look up the filters and instructions. Simply:

1)       Go to the Help tab

2)       Click on Wiki

3)       Type in the item you wish to search for OR click All Pages to see a list of documents

4)       Select the wiki document you are looking for

How do I add to or update the wiki?

If you have worked out a good set of procedures for yourself as you are using CBS and want to share them with others, go to the wiki and enter the information! It will help us all remain on the same page. Plus, some of you will become CBS expert users in some areas and we need your help to document how CAHNRS can best use the system to accomplish our tasks. Adding and editing wiki pages is easy.

Adding a wiki page

1)       Click on the Help tab

2)       Click Wiki

3)       Log in (yes, you will need to log in to access the wiki even if you just logged into CBS)

4)       Click New Page

5)       Add a title in the top text box for your wiki page (something that will be intuitive to someone looking for help)

6)       In the main text box, begin typing your instructions, documenting your process, or other helpful information. You can add simple formatting such as Headings and bold text by using the tool bar. To display images, you will need to upload an image through the “manage files” area of the wiki and then add it to the body of the text by clicking the “image” tool on the toolbar.
